M.A. JÄCH & R. SCHUH: 100 Years Coleopterological Review (Koleopterologische Rundschau) – Happy Birthday

The history of the “Koleopterologische Rundschau” (“Coleopterological Review”, CR), an exclusively coleopterological journal is reviewed. It was founded by a Viennese insect dealer towards the end of the “Golden Age of Viennese Coleopterology”. The first fascicle appeared in December 1911, but the first complete volume was actually published in 1912. The “Rundschau” managed to survive both World Wars. After a modest period of prosperity in the 1930s, it lead a rather shadowy existence until 1989. In 1990 the journal was restyled completely. Since then, its contents, layout and quality of printing have improved continuously.

M.A. JÄCH, J. LI, X. ZHANG & M. GAO: A remarkable collection of aquatic and riparian beetles from Xiachayu, Zayü County, southeastern Tibet (Coleoptera: Gyrinidae, Noteridae, Dytiscidae, Spercheidae, Hydrophilidae, Heteroceridae, Limnichidae)

Fourty-one species of aquatic and riparian beetles (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae, Gyrinidae, Heteroceridae, Hydrophilidae, Limnichidae, Noteridae, Spercheidae) collected at Xiachayu, Zayü County, south- eastern Tibet are listed. Three families, Noteridae, Limnichidae and Spercheidae, are recorded from Tibet for the first time. Seven species are recorded from China (resp. Mainland China) for the first time, 21 species are new for Tibet. One species at least has been confirmed as new for science.

M. BAEHR: New species and new records of the genus Arhytinus BATES 2nd supplement to the “Revision of the genus Arhytinus BATES” (Coleoptera: Carabidae: Platynini)

Six new species of the platynine genus Arhytinus BATES, 1889 (Coleoptera: Carabidae: Platynini) are described: A. atripennis and A. javanus, both from Java, A. yunnanus from south-western China, A. darlingtoni from the Philippines, A. ludewigi from New Britain, and A. baliensis from Bali. The male genitalia of A. taiwanensis BAEHR, 2010 are described and figured for the first time. Additional records of two described but very rare species are provided. A key and a checklist with information about distribution are provided for the genus.

G.T. GUSTAFSON & K.B. MILLER: A new species of Desmopachria BABINGTON from Venezuela (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae: Hydroporinae: Hyphydrini)

A new species of Desmopachria (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae), Desmopachria rex sp.n. is described from Trujillo State, Venezuela. This newest addition to the genus is one of the largest known Desmopachria. Both the female and male genitalia are illustrated. Desmopachria rex cannot currently be placed in any of the species groups sensu MILLER (2001), but its relation to other species of Desmopachria are briefly discussed.

H.V. SHAVERDO, G. WEWALKA & J. LI: Hydaticus tibetanus sp.n. from southeastern Tibet (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae)

Hydaticus tibetanus sp.n. (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae) is described from Zayü County (southeastern Tibet, China). It is morphologically similar to H. rivanolis WEWALKA, 1979 and H. vaziranii WEWALKA, 1979 thus placing it in the H. fabricii-group.

New data on the distribution of 18 species of Dytiscidae (Coleoptera) from the USA and Mexico are provided.

M.A. JÄCH & M. BROJER: Hydraena legorskyi sp.n. from Rodrigues (Mascarene Islands, Indian Ocean) (Coleoptera: Hydraenidae)

Hydraena legorskyi sp.n. (Coleoptera: Hydraenidae) is described from Rodrigues Island (Mascarene Islands, Indian Ocean). The female pygidial sclerites and the spermatheca of H. balfourbrownei BAMEUL, 1986 are described for the first time.

M.A. JÄCH & J.A. DÍAZ: New and little known Palearctic species of the genus Hydraena (s.l.) KUGELANN X. Descriptions of four new species from southern Europe, and taxonomic review of the H. subintegra species complex (Coleoptera: Hydraenidae)

Four new species of Hydraena KUGELANN are described: H. biltoni (Montenegro) (H. riparia group), H. malagricola (Portugal) (H. bisulcata group), H. optica (Portugal) (H. rufipes group), and H. valentini (Greece) (H. gracilis species group (‘Haenydra lineage’)). The latter is split off from H. subintegra GANGLBAUER, which is reviewed taxonomically. Hydraena aroensis (FERRO), currently regarded as a subspecies of H. subintegra, is formally reinstated as a species propria. A lectotype is designated for H. homogyna APFELBECK. Hydraena isabelae CASTRO & HERRERA is recorded from Portugal for the first time.

M.A. JÄCH & J.A. DÍAZ: Descriptions of six new species of Hydraena s.str. KUGELANN from Japan (Coleoptera: Hydraenidae)

Six new species of Hydraena s.str. KUGELANN, 1794 are described from Japan (Honshu and Tsushima): H. curvipes (Nagano Pref.), H. hayashii (Shimane Pref.), H. kadowakii (Tottori Pref., Okayama Pref.), H. kamitei (Gifu Pref., Tochigi Pref.), H. kitayamai (Osaka Pref.), and H. tsushimaensis (Nagasaki Pref.: Tsushima Isl.). The genus Hydraena is recorded from the island of Tsushima for the first time. Hydraena notsui SATÔ, 1978 is recorded from Honshu for the first time.

V. ASSING: A revision of Palaearctic and Oriental Rugilus LEACH, 1819 II. Three new species from China and additional records (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Paederinae)

Four species of Rugilus LEACH, 1819 (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Paederinae) from China and Nepal are described, illustrated, and distinguished from their closest relatives: R. (Rugilus) aquilinus sp.n. (Sichuan: Emei Shan), Rugilus (R.) birugatus sp.n. (NW-Yunnan), and R. (R.) barbatus sp.n. (Nepal: Manaslu), and R. (R.) mordens sp.n. (NW-Yunnan). Additional records of fifteen species are reported from China, Taiwan, and the Himalaya. The genus is now represented in the Palaearctic and Oriental Regions by 89 species.

K.T. ELDREDGE: Redescription of the genus Apalonia CASEY, description of immature stages and reevaluation of its tribal placement (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Aleocharinae)

Apalonia CASEY, 1906 (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Aleocharinae) is redescribed based on the type species, A. seticornis CASEY. Immature stages are described for the first time and new bionomic data are presented. Morphological resemblance between Apalonia seticornis and Meronera venestula (ERICHSON, 1839) is discussed. The larvae of the two species have the labrum fused to the clypeus, which is unique among the larvae of Aleocharinae and exhibit virtually identical chaetotaxy. Adults of both species share similarities in the morphology of head appendages – in particular those of the mandibles, maxilla and labium; form of the mesointercoxae; a microphagous diet with a strong mycophagous component where unique mouthpart morphology may represent adaptations to fungivory. Apalonia is transferred from the tribe Lomechusini to Athetini, based on the derived similarities that Apalonia share with the athetine species Meronera venestula.

H. SCHILLHAMMER: Revision of Philomyceta CAMERON (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Staphylininae)

The genus Philomyceta CAMERON, 1944 (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Staphylininae) is revised. Four new species are described: Philomyceta asperipennis (China, Yunnan), P. kleebergi (Nepal), P. schawalleri (Nepal) and P. spoerrii (Nepal). Philomyceta caeruleipennis CAMERON, 1944 and P. affinis CAMERON, 1944 are redescribed. Montguillonius sikkimensis (COIFFAIT, 1982) is synonymized with P. caeruleipennis.

H. SCHILLHAMMER: Studies on the Eucibdelus lineage 3. Revision of Rhyncocheilus FAUVEL (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Staphylininae)

The genus Rhyncocheilus FAUVEL, 1882 (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Staphylininae) is revised, now comprising nine species. Two species are new to science: R. henanensis (China: Henan, Gansu) and R. victoriae (Myanmar: China State). Rhynchocheilus cariniceps (SCHEERPELTZ, 1976) is transferred to Rhyncocheilus. Six new synonymies are proposed: R. aureus (FABRICIUS, 1787) = R. bernhaueri CHAPMAN 1933 syn.n., = R. drescheri CAMERON, 1937 syn.n., = R. drescheri var. borneensis CAMERON, 1942 syn.n., = R. princeps BERNHAUER, 1915 syn.n.; R. dohertyi CAMERON, 1932 = R. cameroni CHAPMAN, 1933 syn.n.; R. cariniceps (SCHEERPELTZ, 1976) = Eucibdelus transversiceps SCHEERPELTZ, 1976 syn.n. A lectotype is designated for R. rugulipennis CAMERON, 1932. The genus is diagnosed and compared to closely related genera. A key to species is provided. All species are illustrated by color photographs and their aedeagi by line drawings. A list of 17 additional new combinations is added.

U. IRMLER: The Lispinus ERICHSON, 1840 species of Ecuador with description of a new species and a new synonymy (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Osoriinae)

Lispinus bellavistae sp.n. (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Osoriinae) is described from Ecuador. All species of Lispinus ERICHSON recorded from Ecuador are presented and a key to the species of the genus is provided. Lispinus neotropicus IRMLER, 1994 is synonymised with L. catena SHARP, 1876. The ecology and geographical distribution of the Ecuadorian Lispinus species are discussed.

A. KOMAREK: Taxonomic revision of Anacaena THOMSON, 1859 IX. The People’s Republic of China (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae)

The species of Anacaena THOMSON, 1859 (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae) from the People’s Republic of China are revised. Anacaena bulbifera PU, 1964, and A. lushanensis PU, 1964 are transferred to Paracymus THOMSON, 1867. Anacaena hunanensis PU, 1964 and A. pseudoyunnanensis JIA, 1997 are not available and consequently are regarded as nomina nuda. Seven species are redescribed and eight new species are described: Anacaena brachypenis, A. gaoligongshana, A. jiafenglongi, A. lanzhujii, A. pui, A. schoenmanni, A. sichuana, and A. wangi. A neotype is designated for A. maculata PU, 1964. The species described here are all endemic to China. Anacaena atriflava JIA, 1997, A. wangi and A. yunnanensis ORCHYMONT, 1942 are united to form the A. yunnanensis-group due to morphological similarities. Twelve species are aquatic, for three species the habitat is still unknown. Diagnostic details are illustrated and a key to the species is presented.

J. MUONA: Corrections to the Eucnemidae chapters in “Die Käfer Mitteleuropas, Larven” volumes 2, 4 (Coleoptera: Eucnemidae)

The larval descriptions and keys in the Eucnemidae chapters of the volumes L 2 and L 4 of “Die Käfer Mitteleuropas” (KLAUSNITZER 1994, 1997) are discussed. Refinements and corrections are presented and the key is partly rewritten. The larva depicted as that of Hylochares cruentatus (GYLLENHAL) is in fact that of Hylochares populi BRÜSTLE & MUONA. The larval description of Microrhagus pyrenaeus BONVOULOIR is shown to be based on an error.

Y. KAMITE: Three new species and a new combination of the genus Heterlimnius HINTON from Asia (Coleoptera: Elmidae)

Three new species of the genus Heterlimnius HINTON (Coleoptera: Elmidae) are described from Asia: H. horii, H. quadrigibbus and H. yokoii. Optioservus trachys (JANSSENS) is transferred to Heterlimnius. The H. trachys species group is newly proposed for these four species. Keys to all species of the H. trachys species group and a world check list of the genus Heterlimnius are provided.

H. YOSHITOMI: A new species of the genus Sacodes LECONTE from Taiwan (Coleoptera: Scirtidae)

A new species of Sacodes LECONTE (Coleoptera: Scirtidae), S. elongata, is described from Taiwan.

A. MASCAGNI & T. RADA: A new species of Heteroceridae from Pakistan (Coleoptera: Heteroceridae)

Augyles stipebozici sp.n. (Coleoptera: Heteroceridae) from Pakistan is described and illustrated. A checklist of the twelve species known from Pakistan is provided.

S. SKALICKÝ: Augyles barborae sp.n. from Lantau Island (Hong Kong), and new faunistic records of Heteroceridae from Hong Kong (Coleoptera: Heteroceridae)

Augyles barborae sp.n. (Coleoptera: Heteroceridae) is described from Lantau Island (Hong Kong). Augyles manfredjaechi MASCAGNI is recorded from Hong Kong for the first time. The occurrence of Heterocerus fenestratus THUNBERG in Hong Kong is confirmed. A key to the Heteroceridae from Hong Kong is presented.

H. KIPPENBERG: Lopatinica subg.n., eine neue Untergattung von Chrysolina MOTSCHULSKY aus dem Kaukasus und der Türkei (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae)

Lopatinica subg.n. (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) is established for Chrysolina porphyrea (FALDER- MANN) and related species, incl. three new species and two new subspecies described herein: C. adzaharica heinzi ssp.n., C. a. excavata ssp.n., C. curvata sp.n. and C. daccordiana sp.n. from Georgia and NE-Turkey, and C. boluensis sp.n. from NW-Turkey. They are separated from Colaph- optera MOTSCHULSKY by different tarsi, maxillary palpi and aedeagi. Lopatinica occurs in the Caucasian Region and in northeastern Turkey. The taxonomic situation of Chrysolina porphyrea and C. differens (FRANZ) is discussed, the descriptions of C. kataevi LOPATIN and C. adzaharica LOPATIN are completed. Chrysolina porphyrea diga BECHYNÉ and C. p. erivanicola BECHYNÉ are synonymized with C. differens.

J. RHEINHEIMER: Die Tribus Derelomini sowie ein neuer Setarhynchus RHEINHEIMER aus Französisch Guayana (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Curculioninae, Cryptorhynchinae)

The tribe Derelomini (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Curculioninae: Cryptorhynchinae) is represented by five genera in French Guyana. Celetes SCHÖNHERR, Staminodeus FRANZ, and Phyllotrox SCHÖNHERR have been recorded from this country for the first time. Anthobius SCHÖNHERR is confirmed as a member of this tribe. A key for the identification of the genera and of the species of Phyllotrox is presented. Seven new species, Celetes seriepilosus sp.n., Staminodeus guyanensis sp.n., Phyllotrox propoculis sp.n., P. snizeki sp.n., P. micros sp.n., P. pseudomicros sp.n., and Setarhynchus lamarrei sp.n., are described from French Guyana. Phytotribus attaleae HUSTACHE, 1940 from Brazil is transferred to Phyllotrox. Celetes seriepilosus is associated with Attalea maripa (AUBL.) MART. (Arecaceae).

Six new synonymies are proposed: R. aureus (FABRICIUS, 1787) = R. bernhaueri CHAPMAN 1933 syn.n., = R. drescheri CAMERON, 1937 syn.n., = R. drescheri var. borneensis CAMERON, 1942 syn.n., = R. princeps BERNHAUER, 1915 syn.n.; R. dohertyi CAMERON, 1932 = R. cameroni CHAPMAN, 1933 syn.n.; R. cariniceps (SCHEERPELTZ, 1976) = Eucibdelus transversiceps SCHEERPELTZ, 1976 syn.n. A lectotype is designated for R. rugulipennis CAMERON, 1932. The genus is diagnosed and compared to closely related genera. A key to species is provided. All species are illustrated by color photographs and their aedeagi by line drawings. A list of 17 additional new combinations is added.

U. IRMLER: The Lispinus ERICHSON, 1840 species of Ecuador with description of a new species and a new synonymy (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Osoriinae)

Lispinus bellavistae sp.n. (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Osoriinae) is described from Ecuador. All species of Lispinus ERICHSON recorded from Ecuador are presented and a key to the species of the genus is provided. Lispinus neotropicus IRMLER, 1994 is synonymised with L. catena SHARP, 1876. The ecology and geographical distribution of the Ecuadorian Lispinus species are discussed.

A. KOMAREK: Taxonomic revision of Anacaena THOMSON, 1859 IX. The People’s Republic of China (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae)

The species of Anacaena THOMSON, 1859 (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae) from the People’s Republic of China are revised. Anacaena bulbifera PU, 1964, and A. lushanensis PU, 1964 are transferred to Paracymus THOMSON, 1867. Anacaena hunanensis PU, 1964 and A. pseudoyunnanensis JIA, 1997 are not available and consequently are regarded as nomina nuda. Seven species are redescribed and eight new species are described: Anacaena brachypenis, A. gaoligongshana, A. jiafenglongi, A. lanzhujii, A. pui, A. schoenmanni, A. sichuana, and A. wangi. A neotype is designated for A. maculata PU, 1964. The species described here are all endemic to China. Anacaena atriflava JIA, 1997, A. wangi and A. yunnanensis ORCHYMONT, 1942 are united to form the A. yunnanensis-group due to morphological similarities. Twelve species are aquatic, for three species the habitat is still unknown. Diagnostic details are illustrated and a key to the species is presented.

J. MUONA: Corrections to the Eucnemidae chapters in “Die Käfer Mitteleuropas, Larven” volumes 2, 4 (Coleoptera: Eucnemidae)

The larval descriptions and keys in the Eucnemidae chapters of the volumes L 2 and L 4 of “Die Käfer Mitteleuropas” (KLAUSNITZER 1994, 1997) are discussed. Refinements and corrections are presented and the key is partly rewritten. The larva depicted as that of Hylochares cruentatus (GYLLENHAL) is in fact that of Hylochares populi BRÜSTLE & MUONA. The larval description of Microrhagus pyrenaeus BONVOULOIR is shown to be based on an error.

Y. KAMITE: Three new species and a new combination of the genus Heterlimnius HINTON from Asia (Coleoptera: Elmidae)

Three new species of the genus Heterlimnius HINTON (Coleoptera: Elmidae) are described from Asia: H. horii, H. quadrigibbus and H. yokoii. Optioservus trachys (JANSSENS) is transferred to Heterlimnius. The H. trachys species group is newly proposed for these four species. Keys to all species of the H. trachys species group and a world check list of the genus Heterlimnius are provided.

H. YOSHITOMI: A new species of the genus Sacodes LECONTE from Taiwan (Coleoptera: Scirtidae)

A new species of Sacodes LECONTE (Coleoptera: Scirtidae), S. elongata, is described from Taiwan.

A. MASCAGNI & T. RADA: A new species of Heteroceridae from Pakistan (Coleoptera: Heteroceridae)

Augyles stipebozici sp.n. (Coleoptera: Heteroceridae) from Pakistan is described and illustrated. A checklist of the twelve species known from Pakistan is provided.

S. SKALICKÝ: Augyles barborae sp.n. from Lantau Island (Hong Kong), and new faunistic records of Heteroceridae from Hong Kong (Coleoptera: Heteroceridae)

Augyles barborae sp.n. (Coleoptera: Heteroceridae) is described from Lantau Island (Hong Kong). Augyles manfredjaechi MASCAGNI is recorded from Hong Kong for the first time. The occurrence of Heterocerus fenestratus THUNBERG in Hong Kong is confirmed. A key to the Heteroceridae from Hong Kong is presented.

H. KIPPENBERG: Lopatinica subg.n., eine neue Untergattung von Chrysolina MOTSCHULSKY aus dem Kaukasus und der Türkei (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae)

Lopatinica subg.n. (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) is established for Chrysolina porphyrea (FALDER- MANN) and related species, incl. three new species and two new subspecies described herein: C. adzaharica heinzi ssp.n., C. a. excavata ssp.n., C. curvata sp.n. and C. daccordiana sp.n. from Georgia and NE-Turkey, and C. boluensis sp.n. from NW-Turkey. They are separated from Colaph- optera MOTSCHULSKY by different tarsi, maxillary palpi and aedeagi. Lopatinica occurs in the Caucasian Region and in northeastern Turkey. The taxonomic situation of Chrysolina porphyrea and C. differens (FRANZ) is discussed, the descriptions of C. kataevi LOPATIN and C. adzaharica LOPATIN are completed. Chrysolina porphyrea diga BECHYNÉ and C. p. erivanicola BECHYNÉ are synonymized with C. differens.

J. RHEINHEIMER: Die Tribus Derelomini sowie ein neuer Setarhynchus RHEINHEIMER aus Französisch Guayana (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Curculioninae, Cryptorhynchinae)

The tribe Derelomini (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Curculioninae: Cryptorhynchinae) is represented by five genera in French Guyana. Celetes SCHÖNHERR, Staminodeus FRANZ, and Phyllotrox SCHÖNHERR have been recorded from this country for the first time. Anthobius SCHÖNHERR is confirmed as a member of this tribe. A key for the identification of the genera and of the species of Phyllotrox is presented. Seven new species, Celetes seriepilosus sp.n., Staminodeus guyanensis sp.n., Phyllotrox propoculis sp.n., P. snizeki sp.n., P. micros sp.n., P. pseudomicros sp.n., and Setarhynchus lamarrei sp.n., are described from French Guyana. Phytotribus attaleae HUSTACHE, 1940 from Brazil is transferred to Phyllotrox. Celetes seriepilosus is associated with Attalea maripa (AUBL.) MART. (Arecaceae).
